An Ordinary Woman

Russia, 2 Seasons | 17 Episodes. On the surface, Marina is a typical suburban wife and mother, but underneath the perfectly manicured facade, she’s secretly running a lucrative escort service. When one of her best girls turns up dead, she’ll have to clean up the mess without letting her whole house of cards fall. Think Russian “Breaking Bad” starring a formidable female lead. Actress Anna Mikhalkova, who plays Marina, won Best Actress for her performance in Season 1 at French TV Festival Series Mania

Follow the Money

If you’re a fan of “Billions,” this is a must-watch. Winner of Best Series, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor at the Danish Film Awards (Robert).

The Bridge

Denmark and Sweden, 4 Seasons | 38 Episodes. When a woman’s body is found carefully laid out in the middle of Øresund Bridge, on the border between Sweden and Denmark, authorities will discover that it’s not one murder, but two. Widely considered to be the series that started the Nordic Noir TV genre, The Bridge created the inimitable Saga Norén, one of the most memorable female detectives of the 21st century, and has inspired five remakes (and counting) around the world.

The Killing

Denmark. 3 Seasons | 40 Episodes. Topic is bringing this massive Nordic Noir hit to North American streaming audiences for the first time. When a teenage girl’s body is found in a car with ties to a mayoral candidate, detective Sarah Lund’s retirement plans are put on hold as she becomes increasingly consumed by the case. Each season follows a different murder case, with each episode covering 24 gripping hours of the investigation. For Nordic Noir fans, this is essential viewing. BAFTA winner for Best International TV Series. Basis for the American remake on AMC/Netflix.

Dead Mountain

Russia, 1 Season | 8 Episodes. Based on a mind-boggling real-life mystery, the series follows the 1959 disappearance of nine experienced Russian hikers who set off on a skiing trek but never reached their final destination. A month later, their frozen bodies were found spread about their campsite, several of them mangled and disfigured. When Oleg, a KGB major, is assigned to the case, he soon realizes that the truth is far more complicated than he ever imagined.
