Kirsten Gillibrand: Guns, Greed, and the NRA

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wasn’t always a proponent of gun control. As a member of Congress from 2007 to 2009, she touted her family’s hunting history and championed the rights of gun owners. But now the senator—who once earned an “A” rating from the NRA—admits she had it wrong. In an interview with Topic recorded in Washington, D.C., in May 2018, Gillibrand praises the activist teenagers from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, who she says are “at the forefront of advocacy,” and calls out the NRA for being motivated by greed. Plus: an extended audio interview (below), in which the senator discusses the role of women in politics and the United States military.
