The Unequal History of African American Gun Rights

July 9 marks the 150th anniversary of the 14th Amendment, which purported to grant African Americans the rights and responsibilities of full citizenship, among other things. But American history shows that people who are equal on paper can be unequal in practice—especially with regards to the right to bear arms.
